Trekking in Sikkim
For trekking trails in Sikkim there is
some Rules, Regulations and Fees because Indian National do not require
any permit to visit unrestricted areas in Sikkim, but they need an Inner
Line Pemit, obtainable in Gangtok. Foreigners technically can visit
Gangtok, Rumtek, Pamayantse and Phodong for a period of 15 days, provided
they have the Indian visa, but it is advisable to get a permit from the
Indian Embassy while getting the visa. These permits can also be obtained
at Bagdogra airport. Foreigners who intend to trek in the Dzongri area of
West Sikkim or the North Sikkim, can get the permit at the permit office
in Gangtok, located next to the tourist office.
The trek from Pamayangtse to Dzongri, situated
almost at the base of Kangchenzonga peak, is the most popular trail in Sikkim.
Though Indian nationals can go after obtaining special permit, on the other two
trails foreigners are not allowed to go beyond Yumthang (in north Sikkim).
