Trekking in Nepal
Other Trekking Region Nepal
Everest -
This
region is famous not only for its proximity to the world's highest mountain but
also for its Sherpa villages and monasteries with their culture virtually
unchanged through the centuries.SoluKumbu has received countless trekkers and
mountaineers from all over the world. Solukhumbu has developed to a stage where
many options are possible-from a full-scale expedition with tents and porters to
an independent trek using the local lodges.
Kangchenjunga
-
Kangchenjunga History
Kangchenjunga sometimes spelled
Kanchanjanga or Kinchinjunga is the third largest mountain in the world.
Kangchenjunga is located on the Sikkim (India)-Nepal border as part of the
Himalayan mountain range. Kangchenjunga has 5 peaks, of which the true Summit is
28,169 feet or 8586 meters. The name
Kangchenjunga means "The Five Treasures of the Snow" in the local dialect,
referring to its five summits all over 8000 meters.
Annapurna
-
A trek considered by many to offer all aspects of
trekking in Nepal. Green forests, tremendous mountain scenery and a
mosaic of cultures not too mention a good work out ! 7300m. Altitude, The trail
leads northwards initially, crossing fields of paddy before dissecting the
Marshyangdi river gorge, it passes through various interesting villages on
route.
Langtang -
The Langtang valley is aptly called 'the valley
of glaciers. Here, mountains rise soaring towards the sky. The valley
offers pine forest, swift mountain streams, rugged rock and snow- capped peaks,
grassy downs and meadows strewn with daisies and wild primulas. In the upper
part of the valley there are snow ridges spanning angry torrents, high passes
enveloped in mist, tiny lakes of crystalline brightness and glaciated mountain
giants.
Mustang -
Mustang is from outside influence as well as to
protect the environment. This semi-autonomous, heavily Tibetan influenced region
was described by Tilman as "fascinatingly ugly country, the more fascinating for
being so little known." Indeed, the trek to Lo Manthang is through an almost
treeless barren landscape, along a steeply undulating rocky trail, from which
there are panoramic views of Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and a range of other
soaring peaks.
Makalu Trek
-
Makalu is the 5th Highest mountain in the world and this is near by the top of
the world(Everest). This region is blessed with an incredible diversity of
natural beauty and culture. Due to its isolation and lack of tea houses this
area still receives few trekkers. Limbus, Rai & sherpa are the main habitants in
this area. Walking north of the Arun river to Sedua and Nun, then crossing Barun
La(4110m.) into the upper Barun Khola valley for a close look at Makalu. This
trek is difficulty without previous experience.
This trek takes you to Makalu Base Camp (5250 m), now designated as Makalu Barun
National Park and Conservation Area.
Manaslu Trek -
This area with rich in natural and cultural heritage was opened for the trekkers
very recently. The trek beginning from Gorkha. "Gorkha" the ancient kingdom of
Shah Dynasty, the home country of great Gurkha Army has a mixed culture of
Hindus and Buddhist. This is extended and
strenuous trek, circling the Manaslu range was opened to trekking in 1992 along
with Mustang. Going north, up the river valley of the Buri Gandaki and then
behind Mt. Himalchuli (7893 m.), Peak 29 (7839 m.) and Mt. Manaslu (8118 m.) to
cross the Larkya La Pass at 5213 m., this fascinating trek explores areas and
the way of life unchanged for decades and maybe, even centuries.
Ganesh Himal Trek
There are three major groups of
peaks between Kathmandu and Pokhara such as Ganesh Himal, Langtang and Manaslu
including Annapurna range. This trek is ideal for those wanting to escape from
the more popular regions of Annapurna and Everest. It is famous for unspoiled
Tamang culture, spectacular views of mountains and colorful rhododendron forest.
It also begins conveniently close to Kathmandu.
Dolpo Trek -
Dolpo is the best-known of
Nepal's forbidden northern border regions. The 1989 announcement that the
government was opening the region to group treks caused a flurry of excitement.
To reach here, you must trek through a registered company, which will obtain
permits. Groups generally fly from Nepalgunj to the Juphal airstrip, then walk
few hours to the district headquarters of Dunai (2,100 meters). The trail
follows the Suli Gad River, passing through thick conifer forests and a few
Thakuri Hindu villages. The National Park check-post is one day from Dunai; two
steep days later, you reach Phoksumdo Lake.
Dhaulagiri Trek -
Dhaulagiri, whose name means White Mountain, is
the seventh highest mountain in the world. It is an enormous Himalayan massif,
located in north central Nepal. It is the highest mountain located entirely
within Nepal. After its discovery by the western world in 1808, it replaced
Ecuador's Chimborazo (20,561 ft.) as the postulated highest mountain in the
world. It maintained this standing for nearly 30 years, until the discovery of
Kangchenjunga (28,169 ft.), which was then falsely believed to be the world's
highest mountain.
Rara Lake -
Rara Lake (2980 m) lies in the remote Karnali region in the north-west of Nepal
and is centerpiece of Rara Lake National Park. Rara Lake is Nepals largest lake
and is a clear blue mountain lake with juniper, spruce and pine trees along its
shores and snowcapped peaks in the distance. We fly in to Jumla and the first
part of the trek takes us through forests and over alpine meadows with herds of
sheep and goats. After three days we reach the stunning Rara Lake with fantastic
views of Dolpo and Tibetan mountains across the deep blue water.
Rolwaling Valley Trek
-
An alternative more sporting approach to the
Everest region is through the remote and mysterious Rolwaling Valley - described
in Tom Weir's book " East of Kathmandu " and also
visited by ( Sir ) Chris Bonington on an abortive expedition in search of the
legendary yeti. It was at the trailhead at Charicot that I first met Nima when
he was recruited by our sirdar Lal Bahadur as a porter on his very first trek. I
watched in disbelief as the two huge kitbags of Horst and his wife Ursula
tottered off on a pair of spindly brown legs. However Nima was to accompany me
for 32 days all the way to Gokyo and back to the road head at Jiri.
