About This Trek:
The most adventuous and rewarding trek in Sikkim.
Zemu Glacier, to the E of Kanchenzonga, is the largest glacier in Sikkim.
Besides a very close view of the great mountain, there is a magnificent view of
Siniolchu which as per Douglas Freshfield is the most beautiful peak in the
world and a superb triumph of mountain architecture.

DAY-1
Gangtok-Chungthang (1561m) 96km - Bus ride,
normally crowded and uncomfortable. PWD dak bungalow.
DAY-2
Chungthang-Lachen (2778m) 30km - The road to
Lachen is very narrow; it follows the Lachen Chhu on its left and crosses it
just before Bensho village. Lachen is situated amid woodlands and is a
beautiful little place. The Inhabitants are handsome and happy-go-lucky. Going
through the visitors look at Lachen dak bunglow is like a glance through
mountaineering history with names of all the pre-war expedition to Kangchenzonga.
DAY-3
Lachen-Thallem (3000m) 16km - The trail follows
the Tista river (also here called Lachen Chhu). Reach Zemu in 6km, situated at
the junction of Zemu Chu; onward for anothe 10k, to Thallem at the junction of
Lhonak Chu and Zemu Chu.
DAY-4
Thallem-Jakthang (3135m) 9km. - A lovely day's
walk. Cross the Lhonak Chu by a log bridge and pass through rhododendron forest
having atleast 20 different colors and hues. The first views of Kangchenzonga
are seen. Afte an easy climb, arrive at Jakthang camp ground.
DAY-5
Jakthang-Zabuk (3978m) 13km - Following the
Poke Chhu on its left bank, start by crossing Thomphyak Chhu, then an easywalk
leading through Thagmarchen and Poki brings you to Zabuk campsite, near the
snout of Zemu Glacier.
DAY-6
Zabuk-Camp Point 4724m 7km - The path from
Zabuk passes over three long morains and goes along the N side of Zemu glacer
past camp Point 4570 to Camp Pt. 4724. Superb views of Siniolchu (6887m).
DAY-7
Point 4724m-Green Lake (4950m) 9km - Green Lake
is about 8h from Pt. 4724. As you come closer, the huge amphitheatre of
Kagchenzonga is revealed. A few days can be spent here exploring the surrounding
area and climbing to Nepal Gap (6170m) to the W of Green Lake.
