Sarahan, Himachal
Pradesh
Sarahan - It
is located in Himachal Pradesh, Tucked inside the northern Himalayas, Sarahan is
a picturesque village overlooking a deep valley. Tranquil, forested Sarahan--
with an unimpeded view of the Srikhand Mahadev peak - is definitely worth a
visit. For the more sturdy, there are hiking trails leading into nearby
villages. The Bhimakali Temple is also worth seeing. One of the finest examples
of Himachal architecture, the temple is quite old. Passing through the temple's
inner courtyard, the massive silver doors will draw your attention.
The main deity
of goddess Bhimakali is covered by a beautiful silver filigreed canopy. There
are few more temples within the complex. The Gods were generous when they gave
Sarahan (2165m) its settings. Located halfway up a high mountain side, the road
to Sarahan winds Pine trees that give way to stately oaks and rhododendrums. The
fields and orchards surround the small villages with their slate-roofed houses.
Sarahan is the base for numerous treks and is the gateway to Kinnaur. It is a
place of pilgrimage, a haven for nature lovers and the temple complex attracts a
variety of admirers. Here is a place that offers an out of the ordinary travel
experience.
