Auli can be reached by road or ropeway from Joshimath. It provides an excellent panoramic view of the giant mountain peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet and Dunagiri. From January to March, the Auli slopes are usually covered with a thick carpet of snow, about 3m deep. The stretch of 3-kms with a drop in elevation of 500m is considered to be a very good skiing ground by international standard. The background of lofty snow clad mountains heightens the sprit of the skiers.

Day 1 : Delhi - Rishikesh
Delhi - Rishikesh (225 kms By Road)

Day 2 : Rishikesh - Joshimath/Auli (270 km by road)
After breakfast leave for Joshimath. Arrive at Joshimath & leave for Auli by Ropway. Overnight at Joshimath / Auli.

Day 3 , Day 05 : Auli
Three days skiing on the best Ski Slopes available in the Himalayas. Slopes have 3.8 Kms. ok cable car, 1.8 Km. of ski lift and 3 Kms. of chair lift on the slopes. Also equipment and instructors. Auli provides up to 8 Kms of countryside and 3 Kms beated slopes with lifts. Situated at 9000 - 12000 ft. slopes are supposed to be the best in Asia for professionals as well beginners.

Day 4 : Auli to Joshinath-Haridwar (300km.)
After early breakfast drive back to Haridwar. Arrive at Haridwar. Overnight at Hotel.

Day 5 : Haridwar to Delhi (207)
After breakfast drive back to Delhi for onward destination. Extension available.

Skiing Courses at Auli

While experienced skiers are likely to enjoy the slopes of Auli for the excitement it offers of unexplored terrain and the spectacular beauty of the surrounding Himalayas, for those who want to learn how to ski there are numerous skiing facilities available at Auli. GMVN conducts a 7-day as well as a 14-day skiing courses in the months of January-March. The course participants are also provided that basic ski equipment and lift facility, boarding and lodging.

Facilities for Skiers

The 500m ski-lift system, the longest cable car in Asia, or the trolley, as it is known locally, connects Joshimath with Gorson, above Auli. A short distance beyond Gorson lies the hill of Gorson Top, which provides excellent mountain vistas and is on the 24-km trek to kauri Pass. From Gorson, Auli's only chair lift travels to the base lodge, which is a small building that marks the starting point of all the ski runs.

An 800m long chair lift connects the lower slopes with upper slopes in Auli, making it easy for skiers to zip up in moments. Once reaching the ski start point they can ski down rapidly, while other can walk down the snow-paths at leisure. There are two snow-beaters imported from Germany, for beating the snow for skiing.

Auli Location

The adventure destination of Auli lies towards the north of the state of Uttaranchal and forms a part of the Garhwal mountain range. Auli is 16 km away from Joshimath. The steep slopes of Auli are as high as 9000 feet above sea level. The deodar and oak forests cover the slopes and reduce the velocity of the chilly winds to the minimum. The slopes offer a panoramic view of many a famous Himalayan peaks like Nanda Devi, Kamet, Mana Parvat and Dunagiri.

Getting There

The nearest airport is Dehradun, about 298 km away. Rishikesh, about 235 km away, is the nearest railhead. Regular road services are available from Delhi, Dehradun, Rishikesh and Hardwar to Joshimath, 16 km away. From Joshimath one can hire jeeps to Auli. Compulsory Conditions

Although one usually carries pullovers and other woolen wear while visiting tourist spots during winters, one has to remember that Auli is not just another winter tourist spot. The freezing temperatures force the visitors to carry such winter wear in adequate quantity and of good quality. One good practice is to carry a first-aid kit. All those interested to explore the snowfields of Auli should necessarily carry with them dark glasses, snow/gum boots, and a torch. All visitors are also advised to carry with them adequate number of spare cells or candles, as there is an acute power crisis in the region.
