Mamik Glacier Trek Kumaon, Uttaranchal

About This Trek:
Ram Ganga-Namik Glacier (Recently
opened area with rough and tough walks) - Situated at the head of Ram Ganga
Valley, between Gauri Ganga and Pindar valleys. This has been a restricted
area, hence it has remained comparatively unknown to the trekking community.
The approach to this glacier is a delightful excursion. Leti is the roadhead
which can be reached from Bageshwar via Bharari and Samadhura. Leti (2050m) is
a big village where porters can be hired.

All the treks of Kumaon (Uttaranchal India) is connected by 'our coach'
with Delhi
DAY-1
Leti-Gogina (1800m) 12km - The
first stage N goes gently over a ridge and down to Kotkam village. After
crossing two streams ascend to cross another ridge, then slant E before turning
N again and descending to suri village. Gogina is 2.5km ahead.
DAY-2
Gogina-Namik (2000m) 6km -
Climbing gradually the path crosses many streams, passes through the hamlet of
Kautibula and after crossing the Ram Ganga by a bridge reaches Namik, a small
village of 500 people.
DAY-3
Namik-Thala (3150m) 10km - The
trail turns E and climbs steeply for 6km through oak and rhododendron forest to
Panopa (2800m). Continue upward strenuously for 4km to Thala; panoramic view of
many peaks, including Nanda Devi, Panwali Dwar and Nanda Khat.
DAY-4
Thala-Rantham (3500m) 8km - The
track turns sharply towards the N along the ridge leading to Ram Ganga Glacier.
A short walk to Saufa vantage point reveals the entire Panchchuli Range to the
NE. Rantham is the next place en route where you can camp for the night.
DAY-5
Rantham-Roma (3850m) 7km - A
gradual ascent of 2h leads to Sudam Khan Pass, a small depression in the ridge.
Follow the ridge line N to reach the glacial lake of Roma.
DAY-6
Roma-Ram Ganga Glacier (3200m) 9km
- The first 2km is a steep shepherd's path, which later descends to Hiraman and
curves W, down to the glacier snout, under the shadow of Dang Thal (6050m).
DAY-7
Ram Ganga Glacier-Namik 18km -
Return by this more direct route, at first following thew Ram Ganga Village for
1.5km, then a steep climb and going up and down several times to enter a mixed
dense forest at 2800m. Continue more easily for 9km to Namik.
