Trekking Chamba
Valley in Himachal Pradesh
|Trekking in Chamba - A few side Treks in Pangi Valley|
There are a few short and very enjoyable side
treks to the E side of Pangi Valley which can be undertaken in 2 to 5 days.
Sural Valley Trek
From Kilar turn NW, cross Lujal Nala (also
called Sural Nala) after a walk of 8Km and reach Dharwas PWD rest house, 1Km
from the Nala. Dharwas is a thicky populated village with a few provision
shops. From the rest-house the trail climbs for 30 minutes to a school; turn
right, pass through Chaloti and Anch villages to enter Sural Valley. This
valley contains the villages of: Kanwas, Ganmas, Rusmas, Sural Bhatori (Sural
Tai), Barsal Adwar, Outer Bhatori and Inner Bhatori. Sural Bhatori can be
reached after a trek of 13Km from Dharwas. Bheri Bhatori (3210m) are the two
last villages in this valley inhabited by the Buddhists. The idols of Buddha,
Avaloki-teshwara and Padmasambhawa can be seen in the Gompa at Andar Bhatori.
Shib Shankar La (Sersank Pass) at 5234m which leads in to Zanskar is 16Km from
Andar Bhatori.
Hudan Valley Trek
It is a short 13Km trek into the beautiful
sub-valley of Hudan full of alpine meadows. From Kilar (2450m) climb to the
helipad; continue on a well-defined track to meet a jeep track. Follow this
track and drop down to the Tundroo Nala. After crossing the nala the trail
leads through Tundru and Takwas village in this valley and inhabited by
Buddhists. There is a small gompa which contains a few wall paintings. A
beautiful small lake at 3500m lies about 1Km from the village. The base of
Shiva Peak (6142m) can be approached after 2 to 3 hours walk from the lake.
From Hudan one can also cross the 4700m Tingloti Pass to reach Sural Valley.
Sainchu Valley Trek
This is the most enjoyable side-trek in Pangi
and one can reach Twan, the last village in this valley in three stages. There
are comfortable resthouses at every stage, the bookings for which can be done at
Kilar to Sach Khas (13Km) along the right bank of the Chandra-Bhaga river
upstream. From Sach the trail turns E along the Sainchu Nala and going up and
down gradually for 17Km reaches sainchu village. From there to Twan is a
gradual climb of 9Km via Hillu and Kalicho. These last three villages are
