About This Trek:
A serious expedition of no special
difficulty in god conditions over several crevassed glaciers and two
high passes (Animal Pass 4580m and Sara Umga Pass 4884m), through
splendid alpine scenery, descending to Chhota Dara (3760M) in Lahaul,
on the road running from Kunzum La towards Rohtang Pass. A few guides
and porters in Manali are qualified to undertake this ambitious trip
of ten days.
Raison / Raisen-Bringta Top-Kasol - An easy
pleasant hike of four days across the Isthmus ridge dividing the lower Parbati
Valley Beas (Kullu) valleys, opposite Kullu town. In May and June the Indian
YHA runs a mass-scale trekking programme on this route, so it is better to avoid
these months. Best Period : 1 April to 30 June and 20 August to 30 November.
Start from Raison (1370m), about 15Km from Kullu; camping site with 40log huts.

All
the treks of Kullu (Himachal Pradesh India) is connected by 'our
coach' with Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu and Srinagar.
DAY-1
Raison-Jana (280m) 9km Go N along
the main road for 2km, then cross the Beas river by a suspension bridge to the E
side. A track goes up a ridge to Jana; stay at camps.
DAY-2
Jana-Matikochar (2590m) 10km - A
pleasant walk S through forest to Matikochar Forest Inspection Bunglow. An
earlier camp got burnt in a fire and the ruins are seen along the way.
DAY-3
Matikochar-Jari (1525m) 18km - A
long but moderate stretch. Follow the trail rising gradualy in woods for 4km to
Bringta Top (c. 2650m). On the other side it bears left and progressively NE,
past Prini village along barren slopes to the meadows of Narbai Thach. From
there descend to Balagir beside the Parbati river. Continue for a short way on
the N side of the river to Jari; forest camps.
DAY-4
Jari-Kasol (1585m) 8km Either
cross the river to reach the Kullu-Manikaran road, or continue along the along N
bank for 8km to where a bridge over the river leads into Kasol
on the main road;
tourist bungalow and forest rest house.
