Bhabu Pass Trek Kullu
Kullu Town to Jogindernagar via Bhabu
Pass (2874m) A cross-country alternatively heading W into the Kangra/Dhauladhar
region, as opposed to travelling by the much longer road route via
Mandi. Soon after the main road crosses Sarbari river S of the town,
turn W along a track following the S bank of the Sarbari. After Nehri
village the river turns N and in 10km from main road the principal
track bears sharp left (SW), away from the river, and ascends a branch
valley to Karaun (1951m); Civil rest house. Ahead, follow the winding
track with a 900m ascent in 6km to Bhabu Pass in the Daggi Dhar ridge;
commanding views behind of the Parbati mountains.
A steep descent to Trimehr in a tributary
valley of the Uhl river is followed by a climb over several km round a spur to
Sil Bhadwani (1829m) about 10km from the pass; forest rest house. The last
stage passes; through barren hillsalternating with forest, crossing the Uhl to
reach Jhatingri. From here a jeep road runs in 5km to the main Mandi-Jogindernagar
road near Ghatasni/Guma.
The great Himalayan National
Park - GHNP in
Kullu district is spread over in area of 765 sq km. Rupi Bhabha Sanctuary (269
sq km) of Kinnaur, and Pin Valley National Park (675 sq km) of Kinnaur, and Pin
Valley National Park (675 sq km) of Spiti valley border with GHNP. It comprises
the region lying in the upper reaches of the catchment area of Tirthan, Sainj,
Parvati and Jiwa nallahs. These nallahs merge in Beas river. More than half of
the area of the park is above 4000m.
The park has very rich biodiversity. Forest is
subtropical, alpine and alpine shrubs type. Vast grasslands high up in the
valley lead to snow-covered mountains. Western tragopan, monal, blue sheep,
ghoral, musk deer and Himalayan tahr are found in this region. The park is the
Habitat of Western Himalayan tragopan, monal, cheer, koklass, kalij and
Himalayan snow cock, the Himalayan pheasants.
