About Dalhousie (2053 m)-
The dream destination of
Dalhousie is a happening hill resort in the hilly state of Himachal Pradesh. The
hill resort of Dalhousie has a charm of its own. The deodars and the pines, the
cottages and the villas come together for a unique summer retreat. Beauty
captures the hearts of the tourists that flock to Dalhousie year after year.
First conceived in 1850 as a sanatorium, named after a former viceroy of India
and situated at the foot of the main ridge of the Dhauladhar, this fine hill
resort commands a panoramic view of the ice covered wall of the Pir Panjal
Range.
Developed on and around five
hills (Balun, Kahlang, Patryn, Tehra, Bakrota) Dalhousie is one of the greenest
of all hill stations and its slopes are covered with thick forests of Himalayan
oak, conifer and a large variety of other trees. Most of the Hotel are situated
at the Bus Stand. The elegantly embroidered Chamba shawls, the captivating
Chamba chappals, cane baskets, woolens, and the dolls are all unique to Chamba
region of Himachal Pradesh to which Dalhousie belongs. Walnuts, chilies,
Strawberries and the alpine flowers are the sights that remain in the sweet
memories of Dalhousie!

Panjpula -
It is Just 2
km away from the town lies the 'five bridges' memorial, built in memory of Ajit
Singh, one of India's well-loved freedom fighters. A natural tank and creams
give the spot a fitting serenity.
Jandhri Ghat -
Around half a
kilometre away from the Subhash Baoli,from this place Jandhri Ghat enfolds an
elegant palace in the midst of tall pine trees. Chamba's erstwhile rulers
governed from here till the advent of Lord Dalhousie. The palace houses a number
of shikhar trophies. Beside the palace, Jandhri Ghat offers heavenly spots for
picnicking-gushing streamlets in the midst of fragrant pine-scented breezes
(Local Shopping Centres).
Kalatope -
5 Km from
Dalhousie (Himachal Pradesh), Kalatope is a pleasant getaway, with a panoramic
view, an enchanting palace, and a forest rest house. Kalatope is situated 10-km
away from G.P.O. Square at an altitude of 8,000-ft. Walking along the secluded
and forested road through upper Nakorota hills, one reaches Lakkarmandi.
Bara Pathat -
Set amidst
thick forest is the small temple of Bhulwani Mata, in the village of Ahla, on
the way to Kalatope. A fair is celebrated in July to venerate the goddess. It is
4 km away from the town.

handicrafts including pullovers and carpets at Dalhousie. Chamba slippers, 'rumals'
and shawls at Chambe are very famous if you are interested to Himalayan Cultural
Shopping Items.
Khajjiar -
Just 27-km
from Dhoudar the beautiful little plain of Khajjiar is one of the favourite
retreats for visitors. The saucer-shaped meadow, ringed by pines, has a lake set
in the middle, complete with a floating bland.

While on a shopping spree in
Dalhousie you must check out the specialties of the Chamba region. The shawls,
chappals, cane baskets, woolens and dolls are amongst the many items that make
excellent gift items and souvenirs from Dalhousie.
Adventure-
Though less frequented by
trekkers, Chamba Valley commands a unique position from the trekking outlook.
Construction and extension of roads has made it easier and quicker to to reach
interior districts nearer to the base of passes. As there are no peaks
much above 6100 m. in the Pir Panjal. Numerous trek routes emerge out of the
Dalhousie - Khajjiar - Chamba triangle and there are some trek routes within it
too, like, Chamba to Bharmour, Chamba to Palampur (over the Dhauladhar ranges),
Chamba to Pangi, and Bharmour to Keylong via Kugti Pass.
How to Reach There-
Reaching Dalhousie is an uphill
task. The railway station at Pathankot is the nearest to Dalhousie, at a
distance of 80 km. Regular buses and taxis connected Pathankot with Dalhousie.
By Air

The nearest airport is at Gaggal (Kangra), 140-km from Dalhousie.
By Rail
:
The nearest railhead is
Pathankot, which is well connected to Amritsar, Jammu, Delhi and Jalandhar.
By Road
:
Onward journey from Pathankot
to Chamba and Dalhausie is by road. Punjab and Himachal Roadways run services,
as do private operators.
